- Systematically explore the enormous variability available in various indigenous but relatively neglected species of plants, microbes, animals and fish, and understand the role of and fetching desirable genes for traits of agronomic importance employing genomic tools and high throughput genome-wide approaches
- Bringing a large number of scientists from different disciplines dealing with plants, microbes, livestock animals and fish on the same platform for the first time in India so that the species barrier in looking for the desirable genes for traits relevant to improvement of plants, livestock and fish is removed
- Initiate development of the bioinformatics resources for application of genomics for genetic enhancement of agricultural species
